In the Wake of the Vikings, the Viking Star, Bergen, Norway to Montreal, Canada, September 18 - October 2, 2016
Our ship, the Viking Star.
Beautiful commons area.
More commons area.
Bergen - we ascended Mt. Fløien via a funicular railway.
The view 984 feet above sea level.
More view of Bergen.
Our next port of call was Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland.
Our first view of Lerwick.
We did see lots of green.
A bit of the city of Lerwick.
Our next port was to be Tórshavn, Faroe Islands but the sea was too rough and we had to skip this stop.
We encountered some very rough sea enroute to Iceland.
In a fjord, we saw a small glacier.
We also saw an iceberg.
Food onboard was pretty spectacular.
Sushi was available every evening.
We finally got to Reykjavik, Iceland. We opted for the "Panoramic" tour only.
A view of the Hallgrimskirkja Church.
The architecture is to suggest lava flow from a volcano.
The spectacular pipe organ in the church.
This is the Höfõi House, where Reagan and Gorbachev met to begin the ending of the cold war.
The all class concert hall. Just spectacular.
Then, on to Greenland, which wasn't very green.
Nanortalik, Greenland. Stark and treeless.
Nanortalik near the mouth of Tasermiut Fjord.
Some Inuit kids. They were as curious about us as we about they.
Qaqortoq, Greenland. A larger town.
The bank in Qaqortoq.
Here you can see our tender that took us from our ship to Qaqortoq.
Our next port was L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland, Canada. We looked at the area from the ship, deciding not to look at the old ruins.
L'Anse aux Meadows off to the upper right.
Our next port was Saguenay, Quebec, Canada.
A beautiful port and region generally.
This curious building housed the Department of Motor Vehicles of all things.
While in Saguenay, we attended La Fabuleuse Live Stage Show. It was a lively storytelling, song and dance show that visitors to Saguenay should just not miss.
Then, on to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. We chose to take a helicopter flight over the city and had some great views of the city.
